If a particular page on a website does not load for some reason or if a link is not functioning, the site visitor shall see an error page with some generic message. The page will have nothing in common with the rest of the website, which could make the visitor leave your site. A solution in this case is a feature made available from some website hosting companies - the ability to set up your own personalized error pages that shall have the exact same design as your Internet site and which may contain any text or images you want dependent upon the specific error. There are four common errors which can take place and they involve these so-called HTTP status codes - 400, when your web browser sends a bad request to the server and it cannot be processed; 401, if you're supposed to log in to see a web page, but you have not done so yet; 403, if you don't have an authorization to see a specific page; and 404, in case a link that you have clicked leads to a file that does not exist. In each of these situations, visitors shall be able to see your custom content instead of a generic error page.

Custom Error Pages in Cloud Hosting

The customized error pages function is offered with each cloud hosting plan which we offer and you shall be able to substitute all the generic pages with your own with no more than a few mouse clicks inside your Hepsia hosting Control Panel. You shall need to develop the actual files and to upload them to your account, then to set them for a particular domain or subdomain via the Hosted Domains section of the Hepsia CP. You can do this for every web site hosted in the account independently, so that each group of custom pages shall have identical design as the site it is part of. If required, you could always return back to a default page from our system or to the default Apache server page. One other way to set custom made error pages is to create an .htaccess file inside the domain/subdomain root folder and to add a few lines in it. If you haven't done this before, you may simply copy the necessary code from our Help article about the subject.

Custom Error Pages in Semi-dedicated Servers

When you host your websites in a semi-dedicated server account with us, you can set tailor-made error pages for any of them easily using our in-house developed Hepsia hosting Control Panel. With a couple of mouse clicks in the Hosted Domains section, you could edit the default setting from a system page to a customized one for any of the four error types. All you should do is provide a link to every single file which you have uploaded before that and then save the change. If necessary, you will be able to revert this customization at any time and in exactly the same way. If you prefer, you could use an .htaccess file as well. It has to be created/uploaded inside the domain or subdomain folder linked to the internet site whose error pages you would like to modify and the content for this type of file can be found in our Help article for this matter.
