The term “hosting” doesn't describe only one service, but a number of services which provide different functions to a domain address. Having a site and e-mails, for instance, are two independent services although in the general case they come together, so most people consider them as one single service. In reality, each and every domain name has a couple of DNS records called A and MX, which show the server that deals with each particular service - the first one is a numeric IP address, which defines where the site for the domain address is loaded from, while the latter is an alphanumeric string, which shows the server that deals with the emails for the domain. As an illustration, an A record would be 123.123.123.123 and an MX record can be mx1.domain.com. Whenever you open a website or send an e-mail, the global DNS servers are contacted to check the name servers that a domain has and the traffic/message is first directed to that company. When you have custom records on their end, the Internet browser request or the email will be directed to the correct server. The idea behind working with separate records is that the two services use different web protocols and you could have your site hosted by one service provider and the emails by another.

Custom MX and A Records in Cloud Hosting

The Hepsia hosting CP, that comes with each and every cloud plan that we offer you, allows you to see, modify and create A and MX records for any Internet domain or subdomain in your account. From the DNS Records section, you'll be able to see a list of all hosts within the account from a to z with their related records, so any update isn't going to take you more than a couple of mouse clicks. Creating new records is just as simple if, for example, you would like to use the email services of a different company and they ask you to set up more MX records than the default two. Also you can set the priority for every single MX record by setting different latency. Put simply, when your e-mails are delivered, the sending server is going to contact the record with the smallest latency first and in case the connection times out, it'll contact the next one. Using our sophisticated tool, you're going to be able to manage the records of your domain addresses and subdomains effortlessly even when you have no previous experience with such matters.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

If you acquire a semi-dedicated server plan through us, you're going to be able to see and edit the A and MX records for every one of the domain names or subdomains that you host in the account. The Hepsia Control Panel, which you'll get to take care of the account, provides an advanced, albeit easy-to-use tool in which all hosts are going to be listed in alphabetical order and you are going to be able to edit their records with no more than a few clicks. If you have to set up a new record, it'll be just as simple - pick the domain/subdomain, enter the IP address or mail server record and you are going to be all set. You will also be able to set different priority for the MX records which you create in case that you choose to use a third-party e-mail provider and they ask you to set up additional records besides the two default ones. If you encounter any difficulties, we have a detailed Help section with videos where you can see first-hand how to create or change any record.
